Personality Type & Communication Training

This training takes all team members to higher levels of productivity and job satisfaction. A good team creates group collaboration and helps each member experience optimum success and goal achievement. The more trust and understanding the greater the possibility for growth.

Objectives

·         Recognize how “first impressions” and Type effect the way you greet everyone each day effect team energy and output.

·         Take MBTI (Myers BriggsType Indicator).

Type and communication and conflict management skills

·          Practice the seven step conflict resolution method used in mediation and problem solving.

·         Rehearse seven Non-defensive conflict resolution methods for dealing with team members.

·           Learn the difference between types.

·           Explore how your voice and body language effect how your are seen by others.

·           Use nonverbal methods  S.O.F.T.E.N method to create understanding.

·           Practice matching and mirroring to diffuse tension and enhance understanding.

·           Read the Type of your team members for greater insights and understanding.

Directing and Motivating Others

·         Understand the four secrets that motivate each Type to action and create changes in behavior.

·           Understand which motivator’s works for different people in your life.

·          Check your Type perceptions against actual behaviors.

·           See how other types effect how you view yourself and the actions of others.

·           Use the E.R.A.S.E.R methods for constructive criticism and praise.

·           Practice proven methods for team brainstorming and group problem.

Action Plan for Continued Growth

Because a course likes this is only as good as the course that occurs afterwards, this module creates support for follow through. Participants do a self analysis of behaviors that are strong or that need improvement. Participants meet with "coaching partner" on the team to get feedback on their behavior during the workshop and set up meeting time with their partner after the course to continue learning.

“Build for your team oneness, of dependence on one another and of strength to be derived from unity.”

                                                                                                                                                Vince Lombardi

Learning Approach

·          Learning objectives are clearly defined throughout the program so that participants know what they will be learning at each step, as well as what they will be able to do when they complete the program.

·         Concepts and skills are built from the preview interviews and surveys where participants provide diagnostic information on how their team currently operates, as well as how their meetings are run. Team members will develop a description of how they would like their meetings to run.

·         They will access their individual and team personality with a test of the Myers Briggs temperament sorter.

·         Active participation is ensured for each participant by: small group ground rules of trust and self-disclosure, frequent opportunities to respond, and structured interaction with other participants.

·         Performance is evaluated immediately. At each step, participants know whether they are learning appropriately.

·         Learning is gradually transferred, initially from one program activity to the next and ultimately to the participants’ actual work situations. Real life examples and problems are used in the exercises. Participants first use the concepts and skills they acquired in a carefully structured, protected environment and then apply those concepts and skills to their own jobs.

·         Utility, application, and further transfer of the material is assured by comprehensive closure tools where team members complete a team action plan and a two page personal action plan and arrange to meet with their support partner. Finally, participants are randomly called by the team facilitator during the following two weeks.

·         Humor and fun exercises are used by the instructor to keep the pace of the program lively, create positive energy, and to allow for input after serious exercises.

“That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you’ve understood all your life, but in a new way.”

Doris Lessing

How It Went

ü      The day went very well.  The team leads really seemed to get a lot out of it.  I'm so proud to give them the opportunity to grow.

ü      I feel the day went very well and I am very grateful for the lessons you taught.

ü      The day went quite well.  I had been exposed to this stuff before, but this workshop allowed me to learn some things about the other team leads.  From this day, I will take away toys, a new insight into my fellow team leads, and a lower overall stress level.

ü      The day went very well.  I kept a good attention span.  The open and fun environment helped me retain the concepts.  I felt it brought immediate togetherness and creativity among all members.

ü      Great day, passed almost too quickly!

What I Got From the Training

ü      I will try to examine my behaviors with each of the team leads (especially the new ones) based on what I learned about them.  Profiles of leads; who needs what?

ü      I better understand where I am coming form and how to apply to others

ü      I learned how I interact with other personality types, but more importantly, why?  I learned perception can be very different from reality.

ü      How to deal with various personality types was the #1 thing I took with me.

What I'm going to do with it?

ü      I am going to modify my behavior to better my responses to this behavior.

ü      I will evaluate each team member and strive to meet them on "common" ground.

ü      I am going to use it to more fine tune how I deal with each of the members of my team on a daily basis and when problems arise.
